I’m a Sarcoma Slayer. And here’s the tweet that started it all:
“@EJordanCarr @RWZelle, please read about the #slaysarcoma5K and consider featuring on Zelle…let’s bring awareness! slaysarcoma.com” [get the full details]
Today I’ll be joining nearly twenty of my friends (including family) for the 2nd annual Slay Sarcoma 5K Run & Walk. Though we’ll be spread out across the county, we’re coming together to raise money for sarcoma research and bring awareness to Amy Reed’s incredible story. Portland, Bend, Long Beach, Newport, Friday Harbor, LA, Seattle, and Provo are just some of the locations where you’ll find us proudly wearing our shirts and bibs.
But it gets better. There’s more Sarcoma Slayers out there today. My friends and I are on Team Paria Hassouri/Dadvand, which includes roughly 120 Slayers. Paria’s family has generously paid for many of these race registrations as a gift and tribute to her friend, Amy. Overall, there’s more than 550 participants today slaying the beast either as virtual runners or at the race itself in Yardley, Pennsylvania. Early estimates indicate that over $41,000 has been raised for sarcoma research! That’s huge—these could be the dollars that find the cure for this horrible and life-threatening cancer.
While there may a few sprinkles today here in the Pacific Northwest, it won’t stop my friends and I from being proud Sarcoma Slayers.
A big thank you to Paria for her generous support and to all of my friends and family joining me today. For those who can’t make it today, please consider making a donation to benefit the University of Pennsylvania Abramson Cancer Center’s Slay Sarcoma Research Fund.
