It happened again. Another year slipped away. Around this time I’m reminded of Calvin and Hobbs’ final comic strip of the beloved duo venturing out into the world after freshly fallen snow with Calvin enthusiastically exclaiming, “Let’s go exploring!”
We of course don’t need a new year to start fresh or set resolutions—we can do this on any day of the year. However, for most of us, the start of a new calendar year seems cleaner; in the words of Hobbs, “It’s like having a big sheet of white paper to draw on.”
When I think of 2016, my sheet of white paper has no boundaries; it can be whatever I want it to be—endless possibilities. I’m excited to run into the new year with the imagination and curiosity (and maybe a little mischievous) of Calvin as my guide.
Eleanor Roosevelt wisely said “Do one thing everyday that scares you.” As I make way my through 2016, I’d like to extend this directive, as every day is an opportunity to be kind, courageous, adventurous, creative, bold, memorable…I encourage you to challenge yourself this year as you add to your big sheet of white paper.
Happy New Year – now let’s go exploring!
