In February, I featured Iolanda, a spirited woman from Elko, Nevada, who joined two of her friends for the Running Om retreat last June. Given my love for all things trails, adventure, and wellness, I jumped at the chance to continue talking “shop” with another retreat goer, so I reached out to Iolanda’s friend Kate for a different perspective. What I learned is that not only does the retreat provide masterful skill and technique in both trail running and yoga for any level, but it offers an abundance of sweat, laughter, and of course, delicious food.
Kate has always participated in sports, but distance running, particularly on trails was new for her. It’s clear from her responses, the Running Om retreat, nestled in the mountains of Montana at the Diamond J Ranch, provided her with inspiration and memories to last for years.
What inspired you to attend Running Om?
My girlfriends and I found out about Running Om in Runner’s World Magazine. I mentioned the retreat to my running group and a couple of the gals were interested in going. If I hadn’t had their support and interest, I’m not sure I would have done it alone.
As a new trail runner, what was your biggest challenge?
Running on a surface that wasn’t smooth. I really had to keep my mind engaged in what I was doing and look far enough ahead to stay on my feet. There were a couple close calls, but I didn’t hit the dirt! [Continue Reading]
